THEORIES

You've Found A Professor's
Study Notes

These are my headcanons/lore dumps about the Pokemon Universe. Basically stuff about the way that universe works + maybe some other things.

All my theories tend to change over time so I may end up contradicting myself as I edit these. It's all mostly for fun, I used to latch onto a theory to worldbuild off of for my stories, and many of my current OCs used to be characters from stories I based off of some random Pokemon lore.

Unless I get random inspiration, I probably won't go too in depth with these theories, but I will leave space to add more if I ever wanna.

Species Theory

Summary: The humans of the Pokemon Universe are not the same species as humans in this world. They are much more adapted to life with Pokemon, and in fact have a symbiotic relationship with Pokemon. It may even be possible that they are a branch species of Pokemon themselves.

In terms of biology, I am definitely no expert. So most of my evidence will not be based on anything about genetics or whatever. I'm mainly talking about the differences that I can see between humans in the Pokemon Universe and humans in this universe. So basically I don't expect this to be scientifically accurate or anything. We're talking about a fantasy universe after all.

So basically, the theory, as stated in the summary, is that "Humans" in the Pokemon Universe are biologically not the same as us in the non-Pokemon universe. There's multiple pieces of evidence I will be using to support this theory, those being:

  1. Adaptability/Hardiness
  2. Superpowers
  3. Teleportation

First, humans in the Pokemon world are weirdly sturdy and strong. People of all ages are often seen getting hit by Pokemon moves with little to no consequences. They can recover from freezing, poison, electric shock, and more incredibly quickly. It's almost as if they have an HP bar that regenerates with time, rather than having to heal in the normal way we expect people to heal.

Second, some humans straight up just have superpowers. We see this with psychics mostly, who will have powers such as telekinesis, mind-reading (usually for communicating with Pokemon), and healing.

Lastly (for now), is one that might be a bit of a stretch. Humans in the Pokemon world can teleport using technology that I believe is similar to the technology used to teleport Pokemon. That is, humans can be turned into data, and then humans can be recreated from data in another location. This to me implies humans may be or may have once been Pokemon-like creatures. (More on this in the Data/Pokeball theory).

Now, those are just the things I feel aren't talked about that often. If I remember right, there are more explicitly stated pieces of evidence implying humans and Pokemon aren't so different even within the Pokemon media. I will be adding those later though because I'm too lazy to look for them right now.

Imagination/Yokai Theory

Summary: Pokemon are not a completely biological species, they are created through the imagination of humans and other Pokemon. The Pokemon Universe has a strong connection between technology, spirituality, and creation that has great impacts on the physical world.

Data/Pokeball Theory

Summary: Pokemon, and to some extent humans, in the Pokemon Universe have the capacity to transform into what I like to call "data" but is more of a spiritual energy that the Pokemon Universe's technology can harness and transport. This is how Pokemon can be traded long distances and how humans are able to use warp tiles/short distance teleportation. This may be a similar (albeit less voluntary) mechanism to how Pokemon can shrink themselves to fit into Pokeballs.

The Pokemon Multi-verse

Summary: The Pokemon franchise is made up of many different universes. Some of them are similar to each other, but have differences that set them apart, and some of them are very different. However, due to the effects of the Pokemon within them, they can sometimes become connected. Often times this works as a sort of fated connection, where humans and/or Pokemon become "fallers" and are sent to a different universe than their own to fulfill a purpose.
